The listed designer,(in the Sailstar literature), Talman Bigelow was a former employee of the O'Day Corporation. Though the real designer seems to have been Robert Baker. Sailstar Boats, builder of the EXPLORER 17, was sued (unsuccessfully) by O'Day because of it's obvious similarity to O'Day's DAYSAILOR.
Sailstar offered a keel version of this same hull which was called the PIONEER (exceedingly rare).
